UMD Student Journalists Cover the GOP and Democratic Conventions
Three multimedia reporters and a television broadcast crew of three will travel to the Republican National Convention in Tampa on Aug. 27, where they will provide full multimedia coverage of Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan's acceptance speeches and blanket the Maryland delegation's events in Tampa, Fla. CNS Annapolis Bureau Director Rafael Lorente will lead the coverage in Tampa.
The following week, four multimedia reporters and two broadcasters will travel to Charlotte, N.C., to follow the Maryland Democratic delegation and cover President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's speeches - as well as those by Maryland's own Gov. Martin O'Malley and Sen. Barbara Mikulski. CNS Washington Bureau Director Adrianne Flynn will supervise in Charlotte.
Sue Kopen Katcef - who serves as director of "Maryland Newsline," the nightly news show produced by advanced broadcast news reporting students - will oversee the broadcast students from College Park.
Their work will appear on Capital News Service's award-winning website cnsmaryland.org, directed by College Park Bureau Chief Sean Mussenden, as well as in the more than 40 client media outlets served by CNS. Twitter members can follow them @CNSmd or stop by their Facebook page.
The students and faculty advisers will also be blogging for the University of Maryland, and their experiences will be part of an upcoming TerpVision segment.
