UMD and MAR Inc. To Begin New Cybersecurity Partnership

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland's Cybersecurity Center (MC2) and MAR, Inc. will partner to promote cybersecurity education and research initiatives.

"We welcome MAR's decision to formalize their partnership and contribute to the exciting educational initiatives and existing cybersecurity research programs we already have underway at the Maryland Cybersecurity Center," says Eric Chapman, MC2's associate director.

MC2 is forging a series of alliances and partnerships among academia, industry and government to deliver advanced educational programs that will prepare the cybersecurity workforce of today and tomorrow.

MAR specializes in four inter-related core competency areas: Cyber Security and Information Technology Services, Intelligence and Special Programs, Systems Engineering and Integration, and specialized Facilities Management and Marine Operations.

UMD researchers are applying their expertise in a number of critical cybersecurity fields, including, secure software, supply chain risk management, wireless and network security, attacker behavioral analysis, and the economics of cybersecurity.

"We look forward to working closely with the Center to address the cybersecurity challenges that face our nation on a daily basis," says MAR's Chairman and CEO Michael Norcio. "We're very excited to continue our relationship with the Maryland Cybersecurity Center that started last year with our participation in the Commercial Nuclear Power Cybersecurity Conference."

George Simonds, MAR's director of Ccbersecurity and infrastructure protection programs, co-chaired the May 2011 conference, which UMD hosted at its College Park campus.

MC2 stresses comprehensive solutions to cybersecurity education, research, and technology development by bringing together experts from computer science, engineering, social sciences, and public policy to establish interdisciplinary cybersecurity initiatives.
