    College of Education Media Day

    The Hornbake Library is just off Campus Drive and Rt. 1 (Baltimore Ave.) at the University of Maryland.

    WHAT:
    Five top faculty members will be available to talk on a wide range of Back-to-School topics that include No Child Left Behind, literacy, university-community partnerships, social and emotional development, teaching math to high school students with disabilities, and high quality teaching. There will be plenty of time for questions. A complete schedule is below.

    WHEN:
    Wednesday, September 5, 2007, 10 a.m. to Noon.

    WHERE:
    Hornbake Library Studio, Room 302HH, University of Maryland (College Park)

    The Hornbake Studio is located in room 302HH in Nonprint Media (downstairs).
    BACKGROUND:
    Reporters interested in education issues are invited to attend our first College of Education Media Day. There will be two sessions with five of our top education experts:



    Session 1:

    10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

    Donna Wiseman, Ph.D.-Interim Dean: School partnerships.

    Ken Rubin, Ph.D. (Human Development): Social and emotional development in childhood and adolescence (bullying, etc.).

    Break

    10:45 - 11 a.m.

    Session 2:

    11:00 - Noon:

    Jennifer King Rice, Ph.D. (Education Policy Studies): High quality teaching; NCLB reauthorization.

    Paula Maccini, Ph.D. (Special Education): Teaching mathematics to secondary students with disabilities.

    Jennifer Danridge Turner, Ph.D. (Curriculum and Instruction): Culturally relevant literacy instruction.

    MEDIA:
    Accredited media interested in taking part in the College of Education Media Day should call Dave Ottalini in University Communications at 301-405-4076 to reserve a space. Print media can park in the Union Lane Garage next to the Stamp Student Union (just a short walk from the Hornbake Library). TV media can offload equipment at the Hornbake Library loading dock.
