Students Display Innovative Landscape Designs at UM Gallery

    Media opportunity - See below

WHAT: Twenty-one schools, including the University of Maryland, Morgan State University, and the University of Virginia, will present a gallery exhibit of landscape architecture student designs of a variety of outdoor spaces. The large, colorful presentations include plans for urban spaces, waterfronts, greenways and other important trends that seek to create vibrant and sustainable environments.

The University of Maryland's entry displays student ideas for the Anacostia riverfront around the proposed Washington, DC baseball stadium. "This exhibit will show off innovative ideas that landscape architecture students have devised to create livable, meaningful and environmentally responsible designs," says David Myers, assistant professor of landscape architecture at Maryland.

The gallery exhibit kicks off LaBash, an annual student-led landscape architecture design conference to be held at the University of Maryland, March 23-26. More than 400 students from around the U.S. and Canada will come to Maryland to meet with world leaders in green roof technology and other environmental and urban design fields.

WHERE: The Union Gallery, Stamp Student Union, University of Maryland College Park

WHEN: Tuesday, March 7 - Sunday, March 26; Gallery Hours: Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m. The public is invited. There is no charge.

MEDIA ONLY: MEDIA MAY ATTEND THE OPENING RECEPTION

TUESDAY, MARCH 7, 6-8 P.M. University of Maryland and landscape architecture design students from other participating schools will be available for interviews. Media may arrange interviews at other times by contacting Ellen Ternes, 301-405-4627.
