U.S. News & World Report Undergraduate Rankings


The university is ranked in the Top 20 among public institutions for the 11th consecutive year - 19th among public institutions and 58th overall. UMD has 25 undergraduate and graduate programs in the top 10; 46 in the top 15; 61 in the top 20; and 72 in the top 25.

The A. James Clark School of Engineering was ranked 23rd nationally for undergraduate programs -- moving up one spot from 2012. The school's aerospace engineering program was ranked in 9th place.

The Robert H. Smith School of Business was ranked 21st nationally -- with eight specialties ranking in the top 25. Those include:

  • Management Information Systems ranked 6th
  • Supply Chain Management/Logistics ranked 8th
  • Quantitative Analysis ranked 11th
  • Entrepreneurship ranked 12th
  • Management ranked 13th
  • Marketing ranked 15th
  • Finance ranked 17th

UMD was recognized for Outstanding Undergraduate Programs, including enriched out-of-classroom offerings that education experts identify as key and link to student success. UMD was cited as a leader in Learning Communities and Service Learning.

 

Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine's Top 25 Schools for Entrpreneurially-minded Students 2012

The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine have partnered for a number of years to create the ranking report. Surveys are conducted with school administrators from April through June. Some 2,300 schools were part of the 60 question survey for this year's rankings.
Data used to evaluate programs include:

  • Levels of commitment to entrepreneurship inside and outside the classroom
  • The percentage of faculty, students and alumni actively and successfully involved in entrepreneurial endeavors
  • The number and reach of mentorship programs
  • The amount of scholarships and grants for entrepreneurial studies and projects
  • Support for school-sponsored business plan competitions
