Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland (28th) were the regional (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia) schools to make the "campus patenting" top 50 list.

- A study rated the M.B.A. programs that give students the biggest
return on their investment. The Robert H. Smith School of Business
ranked fifth among "Regional" Schools (median cost less than
$90,000).
Quality Education for Minorities
- The university was among 27 doctoral granting institutions to
be honored by Quality Education for Minorities Network. The honor
was based on the university's contribution to the number of doctoral
degrees in the fields of mathematics, the physical sciences and
engineering granted to African Americans, Alaska Natives, American Indians
and Hispanics.
