U.S. News & World Report (Undergraduate, University-wide rankings)

  • The university was 22nd in a ranking of national public universities.

  • In the first rankings of undergraduate business and engineering programs in several years, the university was 21st and 24th respectively.


U.S. News & World Report (Graduate Schools)

Robert H. Smith School of Business

  • The MBA program ranked 26th in the nation.

College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences

  • Computer science Ph.D program ranked 11th in the nation.
    • The databases speciality in computer science Ph.D. programs was 4th in the nation.
    • The software speciality in computer science Ph.D. programs was 8th in the nation.
    • The artificial intelligence speciality in computer science Ph.D. programs was 9th in the nation.

  • The department of mathematics Ph.D. program ranked 21st in the nation.

  • The department of physics Ph.D. program ranked 14th in the nation.
    • The non-linear dynamics/chaos speciality in physics Ph.D. programs was ranked 1st in the nation.

College of Education

  • Education ranked 22nd in the nation.
    • The counseling and personnel services speciality ranked 2nd in the nation.

A. James Clark School of Engineering

  • Engineering was tied for 17th in the nation.
    • Engineering ranked 6th in the nation in research dollars.

College of Library and Information Sciences

  • Library and Information Sciences ranked 14th in the nation.
    • The archives and preservation speciality ranked 2nd in the nation.
    • The health librarianship speciality ranked 6th in the nation.
    • The information systems speciality ranked 10th in the nation.


Dance Spirit Magazine

  • The department of dance was selected among the best 20 college programs in the nation.


The Templeton Guide

  • The Templeton Guide: Colleges that Encourage Character Development, named the university an exemplary program.


Computerworld Magazine

  • The Robert H. Smith School of Business was No. 3 among U.S. schools in preparing information technology graduate students.


Black Issues in Higher Education

  • The university was ranked ninth among non-historically black colleges and universities in graduating black students.

  • In the annual report on graduate schools, the university made the following lists of schools who awarded doctorates to people of color:

Sears Cup

  • Terrapin athletics finished 22nd in the nation in the Sears Cup standings (a measurement of excellence over a broad range of collegiate sports.)


Sports Illustrated

  • The Terrapin women's athletics program was ranked 8th.


Other

  • The women's lacrosse team won an unprecedented 5th straight NCAA championship.

  • The university ranks No. 24 in the number of Peace Corps volunteer-producing universities, it was announced by the government agency in January.
