U.S. News & World Report (University-wide
Ranking)
- In the first-ever U.S. News & World Report rankings of
public institutions, Maryland was 30th. Additionally, the
magazine featured the university's Honors Program in its review of
premium educational opportunities outside of the traditional Ivy League
domain.

Business Week
- The Robert H. Smith School of Business ranked 22nd
in the nation, it's first ranking among the top 25. (The magazine rates
MBA programs every two years, the 1998 selections being the third
edition.)
Black Issues In Higher Education
- The campus was picked as one of "America's 100 Most WIRED
Colleges."
Journal of Criminal Justice
Education
- The department of criminology and criminal justice doctoral
program was ranked the top program in the nation.
Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine
- The university was named one of the top 25 values among the
nation's public universities.
Success magazine
- The Robert H. Smith School of Business was ranked
13th among entrepreneurship programs. (In each of the five
years the magazine conducted its survey, the Smith School of Business
program ranked in the top-25).
