The Obama Administration: UM Experts

The University of Maryland has a number of experts who can help you with your coverage of the Obama Administration as it heads into its second 100 days.

Our experts come from a variety of backgrounds including political, policy and political communication, as well as technological advancements that are being used by officials to help with security and crowd management, and experts in security issues.

The list below focuses on political, policy and political communication efforts. Other experts and resources include:

  • Technological solutions: A separate list includes technological experts who are actively assisting inauguration officials. For example, transportation and security officials are using the University of Maryland's Regional Integrated Transportation Information System developed at the University's Center for Advanced Transportation Technology (CATT). This system fuses, translates, standardizes and puts together data obtained from multiple agencies in the region in order to provide an enhanced overall, real-time view, or digital map, of traffic conditions across the region's transportation network.

And what about cell phone traffic? Will the network be able to sustain the likely volume of calls? See separate list.

  • A list of homeland and international security policy experts who can comment on inaugural security or the larger challenges facing the administration.

  • Advice to the New Administration: The University's School of Public Policy has published a series of brief postion papers. And here's a brief summary of their comments.

Feel free to contact our experts directly. Or contact University Communications: 301-405-4621; 301-257-0073 after-hours

You'll find below an index of the political, policy and political communication experts followed by an alphabetically arranged entry for each person.
