Expertise Credentials:
Prof. Zhang has been conducting cross-disciplinary research on earthquake engineering, sensor technology, structural health monitoring and progressive collapse of latticed space frame structures. His research was supported with grants from NSF (CMMI-0726820, CMS-0546963, CMS-0442076) and other sources. His recent work includes developing flexible piezoelectric paint for ultrasonic signal sensing and data transmission in infrastructure monitoring. Other area he has been actively involved is seismic behavior of steel frame structures with or without dampers and low-cost seismic retrofit approach for reinforced concrete structures. His group is currently conducting research on progressive collapse of steel lightweight structures due to strong wind gust.
