Bilal M. Ayyub

Expertise Credentials:
Author of numerous articles and textbooks, including risk analysis, probability and statistics, elicitation of expert opinions for uncertainty and risk, reliability-based design, and infrastructure and sset protection for homeland security. Has analyzed the collapse of various types of buildings for government and private agencies. He received the Department of the Army Public Service Award in 2007 for leading the development of the risk model for the hurricane protection system of New Orleans. Ayyub co-directs the Sea Level Challenge Initiative, a UMD project with the objective of taking logical and necessary steps to develop timely engineering infrastructure solutions that could alleviate real hazards of climate change to society by planned phased-in construction and targeted retrofitting.
