Robert W. Lissitz - professor, Department of Measurement, Statistics and Evaluation, University of Maryland and
director of the Maryland Assessment Research Center for Education Success (MARCES).Expertise - test equating; teacher and school performance; NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Process) and the issue of describing points on the performance scale and determining the cut-offs for various passing levels; interpreting tests that are administered to students who receive accommodations; value added models in education Credentials - Prof. Lissitz served as department chair for 26 years before stepping down to become a faculty member in 2005.
A prodigous author, he has served on a number of committees for both the National Council on Measurement in Education and the American Educational Research Association.
He continues to serve as director for the Maryland Assessment Resource Center (now known as MARCES)( funded by the Maryland Higher Education Commission - or MHEC) that supports all 2 and 4 year institutional efforts to incorporate assessment studies and practices in the fabric of their campus.
The most recent MARCES projects includes providing the MHEC with advanced psychometric support for the state-wide testing effort in Maryland. Several publications have resulted from this work.
Robert Mislevy - professor, Department of Measurement, Statistics and Evaluation, University of Maryland; Affiliate Professor of Second Language Acquisition and the Joint Program in Survey Methods.Expertise - high stakes testing; measuring competence in science to make sure students can put scientific concepts to use in appropriate and effective ways. Credentials - before coming to Maryland in 2001, Mislevy was a 16 year veteran of the Educational Testing Service. His last job there was the distinguished research scientist in the Division of Statistics and Psychometrics Research. Earlier, he was a research associate at the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. His current projects include the NSF-supported PADI project , which is developing an assessment design system with a focus on science inquiry, and work with Cisco Systems on simulation-based assessments of design and troubleshooting with computer networks. He is a member of the prestigious National Academy of Education. Other recent honors and awards include the International Language Testing Association's Samuel J. Messick Memorial Lecture Award, the American Educational Research Association's Raymond B. Cattell Early Career Award for Programmatic Research, and the National Council of Measurement in Education's Award for Technical Contributions to Educational Measurement (three times).
