Alberto Cabrera - professor, Department of Education Leadership, Higher Education and International Education, University of Maryland

college choice, college students, classroom experiences, minorities in Higher Education and economics of education.
Credentials -
Dr. Cabrera serves in the advisory boards of the Pathways to College Network and the National Postsecondary Education Cooperative (NPEC)'s Student Outcomes. He has also consulted with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), the US Congress' Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance, the Cooperative Institutional Research Program at UCLA, the American Council on Education, Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education, the US Department of Education, the National Postsecondary Education Cooperative, the Argentinean Minister of Education, and with several universities in the USA and abroad. Dr. Cabrera has been a member of the editorial boards of Journal of Higher Education, Review of Higher Education and Research in Higher Education. His work on the role of finances on college persistence and on determinants of default behavior has received several awards.

Sharon Fries-Britt - associate professor, Department of Education Leadership, Higher Education and International Education, University of Maryland
Expertise - understanding the experiences of college students, the retention of college students and the impact of college. Her current work focuses on
race, equity and diversity. She is particularly interested in the experiences of high ability Black collegians and their interactions with faculty, peers and the extended Black community.
Credentials - widely published, her courses at Maryland look at how the changing diversity of students, faculty and staff is creating a new set of challenges and issues for colleges and universities, considers college student retention, and the impact of changing demographics and research on higher education.
She was a CO-PI on a grant to study race, equity and diversity in the 23 southern and boarder states funded by the Lumina Foundation. She is a consultant and research associate for the National Society of Black Physicists exploring patterns of success. Prior to her academic appointments, she served for nearly ten years as the Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Maryland College Park. She has been an independent consultant for more than twenty years and has developed and implemented innovative training programs in the area of racial sensitivity for professional organizations in and outside of higher education. She has served as a consultant on these issues for the Eastern Management Training Center for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management since 1992 and has worked with numerous colleges and universities and national organizations.

Robert K. Fullinwider - senior research scholar, School of Public Policy, University of Maryland
Expertise - college admissions policies including affirmative action, standardized tests, legacy preference, early decision policies and the role of athletics; multicultural education; military draft; civic and moral education; lying and its consequences.
Credentials - Fullinwider was one of the early members of the Center -- now Institute -- for Philosophy and Public Policy (School of Public Policy) at Maryland, where he directed research on a wide range of education and other issues. He has written extensively, with a recent focus on affirmative action and reverse discrimination. His most recent book (with Maryland's Judith Lichtenberg) is an extensive examination of college admissions policies. He is also working on a book about multicultural education.
Prof. Fullinwider just completed a year as resident fellow at the U. S. Naval Academy.

Karen Inkelas - assistant professor, college student personnel program, Department of Counseling and Personnel Services, University of Maryland
Expertise - Asian Pacific American college student experience, affirmative action, racial attitudes of college students, campus racial climates and diversity initiatives in postsecondary education, living and learning programs.
Credentials - most recent writings have looked at the attitudes of Asian Americans towards Affirmative Action. Prof. Inkelas has researched how to best understand the influence of educational experiences on Asian Pacific American students' aspirations and identity.

Hanne Mawhinney, associate professor, Department of Education Leadership, Higher Education and International Education, University of Maryland
Expertise - education administration and leadership, especially leadership for the development of professional and learning communities, education policy, especially youth policy and accountability issues, school-community collaboration, and critical feminist theory.
Credentials - graduate program coordinator for the education leadership and policy studies area. Prof. Mawhinney also coordinates the activities of the Education Leadership Institute. ELI initiatives include the Maryland Principals' Institute a partnership with the Maryland State Department of Education, which offers professional development for principals. Another ELI initiative, the Prince George's County Leadership Academy, includes graduate study for principal certification for aspiring principals, and mentoring for new principals.

Carol Parham, professor of practice and coordinator of outreach, Department of Education Leadership, Higher Education and International Education, University of Maryland
Expertise - personnel administration, educational leadership, labor negotiation, public policy in higher education, higher education financing, student financial aid.
Credentials - served for more than 8 years as superintendent of Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Prof. Parham was the first woman to serve in that position and the first African American. She was named 1996 Maryland Superintendent of the Year and has received many honors and recognitions over the past years. The Anne Arundel County Public Schools named their administrative building after her in 2002. She also worked in the Baltimore City Public Schools and Howard County Public Schools. She is an active member of many professional and civic organizations in the Washington, D.C. area.
