Ted Y. Mashima is the Associate Director of the Center for Public and Corporate Veterinary Medicine at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, College Park campus, a national resource to train veterinary students and graduate veterinarians for career opportunities outside the realm of traditional private clinical practice.

Mashima coordinates hands-on programs in the public practice of veterinary medicine in the Washington DC metropolitan region--the CPCVM Public Policy Clerkship and the Summer Fellowship in Veterinary Public Policy: Bioterrorism. He also coordinates clerkships for senior veterinary students at government agencies, corporations, zoological parks, aquariums, wildlife programs, and other conservation and ecological health organizations. He is the course leader for two courses that incorporate distance-learning technologies: Veterinary Public Policy (junior veterinary students) and Veterinary Medicine: Options and Opportunities (pre-veterinary students).

Mashima completed an internship in zoological medicine at Kansas State University and a zoological medicine residency (wildlife emphasis) at North Carolina State University.

He is a diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine and currently serves as the Secretary and administrative officer; a Research Associate with the Smithsonian Institution (Department of Animal Health, National Zoological Park); and a member of the board of directors for the Alliance of Veterinarians for the Environment. He previously served as a consultant to the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and as the projects director for the National Association of Physicians for the Environment.
