Expertise Credentials:
Dr. Sujay Kaushal is an Assistant Professor in ESSIC and Department of Geology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Before Dr. Kaushal joined ESSIC in 2010, he was an assistant professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (2005-2010). Dr. Kaushal completed postdoctoral research at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies (2003-2005). He completed his PhD in Biology (concentration in Biogeochemistry) at the University of Colorado, Boulder (2003), and he completed a B.S. in Biology (concentration in Ecology and Systematics) at Cornell University (1997). His areas of specialization are Biogeochemistry and Ecosystem Ecology. His research interests are focused on the interactive effects of land use and climate change on water resources. Specifically, his research investigates strategies for managing the nitrogen cycle, restoration of urban infrastructure and watersheds, freshwater salinization, impacts of rising water temperatures, regional carbon cycle, and tracing pollution sources. He is a co-PI of the National Science Foundation (NSF) supported Baltimore Ecosystem Study Long-term Ecological Research site and NSF Urban Long-term Research Area Exploratory Award.
