Peter Sunderland is Assistant Professor in the department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland. Prior to this appointment Prof. Sunderland was NCMR Staff Scientist at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland Ohio.
Professor Sunderland earned a B.S. at Cornell Univerisity, an M.S. at the University of Massachusetts, and a Ph.D. at the University of Michigan. His dissertation was titled "Soot Formation in Laminar Jet Diffusion Flames."
Professor Sunderland has published 15 journal papers on combustion and thermal science. His interests include fire, combustion, hydrogen, soot, smoke, oxygen-enriched combustion, candles, microgravity, vehicle fires, and combustion diagnostics. His research is funded by NASA and NIST.
