Maryland Day Highlights:
Stage Combat Demo

By Danielle Earls

Stage Combat Demos are part of Maryland Day at the University of Maryland.Have you ever watched an action packed summer blockbuster and wondered how actors perform combat stunts without even getting hurt? Wonder no more, as the Department of Theatre will reveal the secrets behind this entertaining art during this year's Maryland Day. Find out what it takes to master stage-fighting during two workshops at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. The demonstrations will be held in room 3736 located in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.

Making theatrical combat look true-to-life takes practice and discipline. Take a 45 minute break and learn the specifics each stage combat fight must now. The workshop is run by Theatre student Casey Kaleba, who has studied stage-fighting for more than five years, and will include various staging-fighting moves and techniques. If you are confident enough, this interactive event will even give you the opportunity try your stage combat skills!
