Climate Change at the University of Maryland
The University of Maryland is a national leader in research to understand global climate change, its impacts and the scientific, technological, economic and public policy challenges it poses for humanity.

Over the past decade, the university has built on its long tradition of excellence in atmospheric, climate, biological, and earth science to develop major new partnerships with federal agencies in the areas of earth science, remote imaging, climate change and energy research. Maryland 's affiliation with four major climate change organizations, its climate change initiative CIRUN, along with its highly-experienced group of experts involved in research and policy analysis available to offer perspectives and insight, make the University of Maryland a primary resource for the latest in climate change news and research.

Weather and Climate Prediction at M Square
The University of Maryland Research Park, M Square, will soon be home to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Center for Weather and Climate Prediction, the U.S. focal point for generating short and long-term ocean and atmospheric forecasts. The NOAA center's new building is next door to the university's Earth Systems Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) and Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI) -- two leading centers on climate change. When the NOAA building opens in 2009, NOAA and Maryland plan to greatly extend their collaborations in weather and climate research and education.

M Square is a dynamic location for science and technology companies. Located adjacent to the University of Maryland campus, M Square is also home to the National Foreign Language Center; Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity; Center for Advanced Study of Languages; FDA Center for Food Safety; Maryland Center for Food, Nutrition and Agricultural Policy; and the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. At full capacity, M Square will be Maryland 's and the Washington region's largest university research park, with over 2 million square feet of facilities.
